Texas Holdem
Texas Holdem poker
Texas Holdem poker only really rose to become the most popular poker game ever at the turn of this century. Holdem pokers evolved form 7-Card Stud and has now dwarfed that game in popularity. It is the professional's game of choice because it allows for four betting options rather than the two traditional options offered in stud poker. There are also community cards - five cards dealt face up on the table. Both of these factors mean that players can play much more strategically than they could with other poker variations. Online Texas Holdem is also extremely popular and has become the poker game of choice for millions of players around the world.
Texas Holdem poker begins with each player being dealt two pocket cards, which the other players can't see. There is then a betting round known as the pre-flop. After this betting round has finished the dealer then deals the 'flop', which are three face-up cards on the table. The players then bet again. Another card is added to the community cards known as the 'turn' or 'forth street'. There is another betting round. Then a fifth and final card is added, known as the 'river', and the final round of betting commences. In Holdem poker scoring hands are made up from one or both of the cards in the player's hand, and three or four of the table cards.
The best way to learn Texas Holdem poker is to play. Nowadays one of the most convenient ways to play is online. Online Texas Holdem is exhilarating and exciting, and relatively easy to learn. Although game play is largely the same online as it would be in a live casino, there are some differences. Perhaps one of the most significant is that you can't see your opponents faces, so you can't see any habits, or 'tells', that they may have - but then they can't see yours either. Another is that you can play more than one poker table simultaneously, which would be impossible in a casino.
